Discussed state PF fund. The most they have given for a project is $20000. The committee thought our chapter hadn't received support from Wooley to pursue the land project East of Wapello. Due to a lack of a vote, our chapter will not be funding the state fund at this time. Minutes from Banquet Committee Meeting 9/14/04
Place and time: Ken Purdy's residence
Present: Ken Purdy, Dick Grimm, Ron Cutkomp, Richard Hammond, Greg Wagner, Chad Grimm, Mike Todd, Don Wilson, Jim Davies.

The group had fun shooting clay birds before the meeting at 6 PM and the business meeting started at 7 PM.

Motion by Todd, 2nd by Davies carried to buy State Print of the Year, January Surprise.

Discussed inviting new banquet committee members to attend. So, anyone out there, please consider attending the next meeting.

Dick will order banquet tickets and program covers now.

Discussed that the Highland Hunting preserve would allow us to hold free of charge a youth hunting day on October 23. Any of you out there that have a youth that you would like to break in hunting planted birds on the preserve please get a hold of President Dick Grimm 726-3011 or Mike Todd 728-7718. If you don't have a dog, someone from the chapter will supply one. Just call Dick or Mike now to set it up and come with your youth Saturday morning, October 23 the day of the hunt. Must have had the hunter safety class.

Louisa County PF member Carlos Lagespi (owner of La Reyna's restaurant in Columbus Jct.) has a litter of AKC German Short Hair pups for sale. They were born July 4, 2004. He would like $200 each for them. See Carlos at the restaurant or call 728-8182.

Banquet tickets will be on sale shortly and will be $40 which includes membership in national and county, meal, and magazine. This years banquet will be Feb. 5, 2005 at the Circle of Pride Rodeo Grounds north of Columbus Jct.

Motion by Todd, 2nd by Cutkomp to buy two guns carried to buy two guns for checkerboard raffle. Bennelli Super Sport and a Browning BPS. After the meeting and through phone vote with the members, it was decided that only one gun could be put on the checkerboard, the Super Sport. This gun sells for $1650 by itself and we could not recoup our purchase price if we gave two guns away on the checkerboard. I anticipate this raffle selling out this year so get your tickets early. Only 144 chances will be sold at $20/chance or 3 for $50. If your like me, I really would like to have this gun, but don't want to lay out $1650 for it. I am willing to buy 3 raffle tickets for $50 on it however. You will get information by regular mail about the banquet and ticket purchase on the Super Sport.

The next banquet committee meeting is October 21. We are going to start out at Bill Burroughs' at 6 PM to look at a possible PF project. Bill lives on X17 south of Columbus City just South of 105th St. The business meeting will start at 6:30 PM at the Don Wilson residence 10321 W. Ave. To get to Don's, go south of Columbus City on X17 and turn west on 105 th st. W. Ave. is the next four corner intersection. Turn south on W. ave. In case you get lost, call Don at 319-728-2081.

Not part of the minutes, but I would appreciate your vote in the November 2 general election for Louisa County Board of supervisors. If you would like to know why to vote for me (besides being a PF member), go to http://www.kenpurdy.com.

Treasurer's report by Steve Sents: $16,605 in treasury. 181 meals sold at banquet. 163 adults, 27 youth membership. Net from banquet was $10,317.22. Last years net was $10,927.62 Steve said only 78 of the 144 checkerboard tickets were sold. He suggested we need to put emphasis on selling these tickets ahead of the banquet.

Drew explained the old cost share method of PF and SWCD being a percentage basis. He suggested we go to a dollar amount per acre. The suggestion was $10/acre for switch grass and $20/acre for mixed grasses (native grass, blue stem, etc.). He suggested PF go $100 on an approved wind break. Sometimes there are special projects like on a dam. These would be looked at on an individual basis. For information only, Drew mentioned that it costs around $25/acre for switch grass seed and $80/acre for mixed grasses. Bill Ohde will handle the food plot seed.

Steve moved and Ron 2nd to buy 25 PF Habitat Cooperator Signs to give to land owners to post. Motion carried.

We are looking for a sizable project to use for our first funding request from the fund. Our understanding is that you are apt to get the funding the first time you request it, then you go to the bottom of the list. So, we want our first project to be big.

By consensus of the members present these are the new officers:

President: Dick Grimm
Vice President: Ron Cutkomp
Secretary: Ken Purdy
Treasurer: Steve Sents
Habitat Chair and food plot seed: Bill Ohde

The meeting moved to the Circle of Pride Rodeo Grounds facility north of Columbus Jct. The facility was viewed with the idea of possibly having the banquet here next year. The building is 50' by 100' and about twice the size of the Legion or the Briggs center. These issues were addressed: Tables - Steve Tomfeld would make sure that we have access to tables from the various fire departments. We would have to supply labor to pick them up and take them back. Snow: Steve has the equipment and would take care of snow removal. PA system: There is an excellent already installed. Kitchen: Not a problem, since we would prepare our side dishes else where. Restrooms: New and very adequate. Heat: Well heated. The reason for changing locations is we have run out of room at the Legion. We appreciate the Legion and the Briggs Center in Wapello for allowing us to have our banquets there in the past. Motion by Jim and 2nd by Ken carried to have the 2004 banquet at the Circle of Pride Rodeo Grounds facility. Date for the next banquet is Feb. 7, 2004

It was decided to host a trap shoot again this year as a fund raiser at the Louisa County Gun Club. Ken Purdy was to check on conflicts with duck and goose seasons and check with Bob Hamann for availability. Ken's report: After checking with DNR Larry Desner and Bill Ohde the best date to have the shoot was Sept. 20, 2003. Bob Hamann was called to put it on his schedule at the gun club.

Brett McConahay said the Sons of the Legion were hosting a hunter safety course this summer and asked if PF would help underwrite the event. Steve S. motion, Mike T. 2nd carried to give up to $300 to be used to put on the Hunter Safety Course Day.

It was announced that the Highland Hideway Hunting Preserve would again be allowing youth to hunt free at the preserve. next youth day. Youth hunting season for pheasant will October 18 and 19 and they will be allowed to hunt free that day at the preserve. Wow! Thanks Ron Rath and K.P. Kling.

Meeting called to order by Sec. Purdy. Minutes from previous meeting read and approved.
Treasurer's Report by Steve Sents: Approx. $7000+ in the treasury.

Discussion about cash vs. merchandise for a sponsorship. By consenus no change will be made, which means that in kind donations as well as cash will suffice for the $250 sponsorship level.

Discussion on what to do with the 3 framed Old Rivals prints with the same serial no. It was decided that we would need at least $3000 for them at the present time. Sec. Purdy listed the Prints on our LC PF Web site as being for sale. Minimum bid of $3000.

Tentatively set June 10 for a chapter outing to Dahl's shooting supply in Fairfield to select guns for next years banquet.. Meet at Purdy's at 1:00 pm and car pool. Be at Dahl's at 2:00 pm. Our next banquet committee meeting will be during this outing.

Greg Wagner's discussion with the NRCS in Wapello convinced him that any PF contribution to CRP promotion would be used for promotion beyond what would be expected from NRCS. Todd motioned, 2nd Purdy Carried to give NRCS $1000 for CRP promotion as we did last year.

Greg Wagner recommended that PF cost share for 19,340 trees at $3376 for our share on several projects. Motion Steve Sents, 2nd Dennis Simon. Carried.

Present: Ken Purdy, Mike Todd, Ron Cutkomp, Dick Grimm, Brian Mc Cleary, Steve Sents,Jackie Johnson, Greg Wagner

Meeting called to order by Pres. Mc Cleary. Minutes from previous meeting read and approved.
Treasurer's Report by Steve Sents: The 2000 annual PF banquet netted $7699 on on a gross of $19000. Best gross and net ever. There were 176 people in attendance at the Feb. 5, 2000 banquet. Largest ever. 134 memberships were sold this year.

Mutually agreed to continue Sponsor Gun - Browning Gold to be drawn for every 10 sponsors. A sponsor is anyone who contributes $250 to LC PF. The sponsor gets a chance on the gun, a membership and 2 banquet meals.

Discussion: Coat raffle run by Jim Wooley went well. Gasoline raffle broke even but hard to tell since a lot of tickets were given away in mugs, instead of sold. Checkerboard went well. Motion carried to have checkerboard raffle, penny raffle, and gasoline raffle with TV again. An in house gun raffle was discussed but no action.

Secretary to send thank you letter to IBP for donating sponsor gun back to raffle, thank you letter to C.J. Diner and La Reyna's for helping cook meat when our cooker didn't fire up correctly. This was above the call of duty for both groups.

Motion by Bryan Mc Cleary and 2nd by Dick Grimm carried to allow sponsorship to Greg Wagner for hosting a two day pheasant. The hunt was auctioned off at a PF chapter in Illinois. That chapter gave our chapter $600 for the hunt and then raffled it off. Greg does the work and we get $600 less motel room for the hunter's. The hunt is to be held next pheasant season.

Discussion whether there should be a distinction between merchandise given for sponsorship and cash. No action was taken. Tabled.

Motion by Ken Purdy, 2nd by Greg Wagner carried for our chapter to offer to buy back any gun we offer at the banquet for 80% of what we paid for it. The thought was that cash may be more appealing to some people.

Motion carried to arrange a chapter outing to go to Dahl's shooting supply in Fairfield to look at guns for next years banquet. The idea was to arrange a time when he is not normally open.
