LOUISA COUNTY PF YOUTH DAY HUGE SUCCESS, MARCH 23, 2002

K.P. Kling and Ron Rath donated the pheasants and the hunting preserve for the Louisa County youth day at their Highland Hunting Preserve. Louisa County PF chapter members Mike Todd and Chad Grimm organized the event and PF purchased the food and shells. "Grandma" and preserve staff cooked the meals which included baked goodies, pheasant, polish saugsage and kraut.

The youth enjoyed these activities: A pheasant history and habitat in Iowa given by DNR staff Bill Ohde. Gun safety, shot shell explanation, and gun mechanics given by Doug Webb. Hunter Safety instructor Larry Orr showed various guns and explained gauges. Dog breed show and tell was handled by various owners: Bill Barrick (Golden Retriever) , Al Muhlenbruck (pointing lab) , Ken Purdy (Vizsla) , Dan Vogeler ( English pointer and Chesapeke), Dick Grimm (Brittany) , Jerry Jordan (Wire Hair), K.P. King (German Short Hair). Field demonstration of how a pointer and flushing dog work on planted pheasant. B.B. gun shoot at pop cans. Trap shoot at clay birds. K.P. Kling took his two shorthairs and three youth that had passed hunter safety out for a live hunt. The youth successfully bagged several pheasants.
